Who is Rebekah?
One of my least favorite parts of public speaking is writing the introduction. Did you know we have to write our own? 'Tis true in my circles. That's what this feels like: Let me tell you about me.
So, Who am I?
Why don't we skip the career and job and education and all that and talk about who I really am, you know, under all that stuff.
(Look under the tab "Lawyering" if you want to know more about my legal background or the Law-Maze Program.)
My journey, my current quest, is to put some good, old fashioned simplicity into my complicated, busy life. It's harder than it sounds. I'm paying attention to nature. I'm working to enjoy the moment, all the moments. Even quiet ones. That's mostly what I write about here on the Catching Pearls Blog---the simple things in life. The morning dew. Baked oatmeal. Planting a garden. Watching a bluebird build a nest. Going to the forest. Gazing at the moon. Growing grapes. Making jelly. Singing a lullaby. That kind of life-shattering stuff.
Okay, okay. So it's not exactly "life-shattering" stuff.
It's "life-satisfacting" stuff.
It's the stuff that makes the moments matter.
Discovering MaryJane Butters and the Farmgirl Movement was just the kick I needed to re-establish my priorities. That's what I'm doing here. Working on my priorities out loud. Yep, I'm "Catching Pearls" wherever and whenever I can, learning from those who have made this trip before me.
I'm also an organic kitchen gardener. I can't tell you how satisfied I feel to take a basket to my backyard garden and "pick" what we'll have for dinner.
Did someone say dinner? Well, guess what? I'm a cook now. I'm proud to say that I've learned my way around the kitchen (and all the kitchen utensils and gadgets). No more Lucky Charms for dinner for us.
My number one priority is my family. I could get by with nothing-nada-zero-zip as long as I have "My Young-un" and "My Man," as I refer to them here. My Young-un is a sweet, beautiful 10-year old daughter whom I adore. My Man is a hilarious, talented, successful, handsome man whom I'm lucky to be married to for 20 happy years.
So....me?
Well, in short I'm a green-seeking, tree-hugging, animal-loving, life-making, joy-chasing hippie.
Okay, I'm not really a hippie, not yet, but I'm working on it......
