Speaking of barns.
Like we were a while back.
Susan sent me this picture. Thanks Susan! It's a beaut!
Oh yeah, I think so!
I give it a 10.
The only thing I'd change, if it were mine, is to paint it red.
Other than that? Barn perfection. 10.
Not that I'd know what to do WITH or IN a barn.
But I'd sure like to learn.
Maybe I'd start with a barn party.
Yeah, that sounds about right....

MaryJanesFarm
Just a minute ago, I put up a new post at The City Farmgirl Blog.
http://www.maryjanesfarm.com/ is one of my favorite stomping grounds on the web.
Won't you come over and "stomp on the grounds" with me?
I'm talking about last night's Harvest Moon and what I've been harvesting (both in the garden and out.)
This is the moon at about 5:20 this morning when I was doing some "creative harvesting" under the Harvest Moon.

Creative Connection 2011
I'm counting down the days until the marvelous Creative Connection Event in St. Paul!
I'm arriving there on Thursday, just in time to be on the roundtable panel about writing articles for magazines. I'm completely and utterly PSYCHED!
I've been looking forward to this for months.
I can't wait to meet all the creative folks who will be there.
THIS THURSDAY! YIPPEE!
And if you're going to be there and are interested in learning the ropes of becoming a "creative entrepreneur," then make sure to sign up for my Law-Maze Session! I developed this particular program just for the Creative Connection Event.
Do come and find me!
I'd LOVE to visit with you!

The Chicken Barn
We have an old barn at our Mountain Farm.
The agent had said, "Look at that old barn. Isn't that charming?
Can't you see it painted red? Wouldn't it be neat to fix that up?
What do you see in there? Horses? Alpacas?"
The first night we stayed at our farmhouse
after the purchase,
We woke in the middle of the night to a mighty, thunderous boom.
We walked through the house, attic, basement trying to find the source of the loud noise.
We went outside.
Nothing.
"I guess somebody shot somebody."
"Or maybe a bear."
We went back to sleep.
The boom had been the sound of an ancient enormous oak falling on the top of the old barn.
A neighbor stopped by the next day,
"When did the tree fall on your chicken house?"
"What tree?" we asked.
"What chicken house?" we added, confused.
Turns out our old "barn" was an old chicken house.
Not a barn.
We walked down to the chicken house.
The oak had
Smashed half of it.
How sad.
That chicken house stood there for 50 years.
Until we bought it.
Omen? I wondered at the time.
Five years later I know
it was neither a sign nor an omen.
It didn't mean that the farm hated us
or that we were making a mistake.
Now we call it "The Chicken Barn."
And we do dream of painting it red
And fixing it up.
And making music in it.
Yes, a chicken music barn.
Everyone will be invited to come over and jam.
Every Saturday night.
And dance.
But no drinking or smoking.
Just bluegrass and country and the Avett Brothers.
And James Taylor.
I can't wait to make a trip back up to the Farm to spend some time
contemplating banjos, chicken barns, trees, creeks, rocks, skies, birds, apple trees, meadows, grasses, autumn, and omens.
And the unsmashed half of The Chicken Barn.

Singing Dogs
This is the dog video I mentioned.
My three dogs GO CRAZY when I play it.
They stare at the computer
With their heads cocked to one side.
The way dogs do.
And Big Boy, Blue?
He lifts his muzzle to the sky
and sings right along!
