The Blues

I happened to catch a glimpse of blue
As I looked out my window.
It was!
A bluebird had flown by on its way to the feeder.
Soon there were more.

I took a picture through the screen of two males, two females, and a woodpecker.

Deciding I wanted an even better shot, I headed outside quietly.
Not quietly enough.
They scattered to the high branches of a nearby tree.

I should have left well enough alone.

I'm so glad they are back! I enjoy seeing bluebirds this time of year.
This winter, I am going to make sure to keep my feeder filled with things bluebirds like. Their beaks are not strong and sharp enough to open up sunflower seed shells, so they need shelled sunflowers. They also enjoy other shelled nuts and dried fruit. And oh! how they adore mealworms. I haven't bought any since my local bird store closed their doors; I need to find another source for those squiggly guys.
I also need to make sure to keep fresh, clean water in their bird bath.

If I give them what they need here, they'll stay with me until spring time.
And hopefully, they'll make a nest in my box next year!
Bluebirds make me smile just to see them.
And sometimes we all need just to smile.

I know I do. I'm so stressed out right now, I kinda have the blues myself.
But I'm fine! Just pluggin' along.....and smilin'.
Hmmm. I rather like that. I've heard of pickin' and grinnin'. Well, I'm pluggin' and smilin'.
My daughter's kindergarten teacher used to say, "Fake it 'til you make it."
I love that and think I shall do exactly that!
